Muscat, The total number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) registered with the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada) until the end of May 2020 was 44,197, which is an increase by 12% compared to the same period of 2019, according to the data released by the National Centre for Statistics and information (NCSI).
Among the governorates, Muscat topped the list with 34% registered SMEs till May 2020, followed by North Al Batinah with 16%, A’Dakhliya with 13% and Dhofar with 8%, and the rest of governorates with 29%.
The Governorate of Muscat had 14,897 SMEs registered at the end of May 2020, followed by North Al Batinah with 6,983, A’Dakhliya with 5,583, Dhofar with 3,720, South Al Batinah with 3,275, and North A’Sharqiya with 3,001 SMEs registered.
This was followed by A’Dhahira with 2,629 SMEs, South A’Sharqiya with 2,516 SMEs, and Al Buraimi with 928 SMEs registered.
Al Wusta had 497 SMEs registered and Musandam had 168 SMEs registered, which was the lowest among governorates registered till May 2020.
The total number of SMEs registered in April 2020 was 44,139 while the number of SMEs in March 2020 was 44,083.
